Natural Face Lifting and Facial Wellness in Vancouver: How We Approach It
A lot of clients come to us feeling a bit sheepish about it, like wanting to feel good about your face is something you should apologize for. We don't see it that way. Wanting your face to look refreshed and feel relaxed doesn't have to mean choosing something invasive. It sits right alongside wanting your back or your jaw to feel better; it's all the same body.
At GoldenCare Wellness, we approach facial wellness as part of the whole body, considering the relationship between the face, jaw, neck, muscles, fascia, and nervous system. What we hear most often is that people have tried a face massage somewhere and liked it, but wondered if there was something more to it. That's really the difference here.
Our Cranial Facial Osteopathy Approach
Vancouver has plenty of face massage studios, and a lot of them are genuinely good at what they do. What sets our approach apart is that it's built on Cranial Facial Osteopathy, Nora's signature approach, developed through her training and clinical experience in osteopathy, cranial and facial techniques, and intraoral work, rather than as a standalone facial treatment.
Our facial treatments are provided by trained practitioners, including an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner and Registered Acupuncturist. In practice, that means we're looking at the muscles, fascia, and circulation of the face in the context of the jaw, the neck, and posture, not treating the face as its own separate project. If jaw tension or TMJ discomfort is part of your picture, that often shows up in the face too, and it's worth addressing together.
Sculptural Face Lifting and Buccal Massage
This is probably the technique we get asked about most. Sculptural face lifting, also known as a buccal facial, combines external facial massage with internal buccal massage (working from inside the mouth), designed to support a more lifted, relaxed, and sculpted appearance without surgery or injectables.
It's a real, hands-on technique, not a quick fix, and it works with the deeper facial muscles that external massage alone can't reach. Some clients come in wanting the aesthetic result, others are more interested in the tension release through the jaw and cheeks, and most people find they get a bit of both.
Facial Lymphatic Drainage
If puffiness is more your concern than tension, facial lymphatic drainage is usually the better starting point. It's a very gentle technique aimed at supporting fluid movement through the face and neck, and many clients notice a lighter, less puffy feeling afterward, especially after a poor night's sleep, travel, or a stretch of high stress.
This is the same principle behind lymphatic drainage for the rest of the body, just applied to the face specifically.
Holistic Balance 90-Minute Session
For clients who want it all in one visit, the Holistic Balance Session combines facial work with body massage and osteopathic technique in a single appointment. It's a popular choice for clients who want both deep relaxation and comprehensive facial and body work in one session.
Want to Learn These Techniques Yourself?
If you're a practitioner interested in adding this to your own practice, Nora also teaches what she does. Our guide to what buccal facial actually involves is a good starting point, and our Buccal Fascial course in Vancouver covers the training itself, taught in small groups.
Safety: Botox, Fillers, Surgery, and Pregnancy
None of these techniques are a substitute for medical or dermatological care. If you're dealing with an active skin infection or a recent facial injury, please see a physician or dermatologist first, that's simply outside what manual facial work is meant to address. For clients with a history of Bell's palsy or another neurological condition affecting the face, medical clearance may be recommended before treatment, and we're happy to coordinate with your doctor to figure out what's appropriate.
If you've had Botox or filler, please wait at least 4 weeks before booking a facial treatment with us. After facial cosmetic surgery, we generally recommend waiting about a year, along with medical clearance from your surgeon, before beginning facial work.
During pregnancy, we don't perform facial treatments during the first trimester. After that, most of our techniques can generally be adapted, but please let your practitioner know so the session can be planned appropriately.
And to be clear about expectations: results vary from person to person, and this isn't a replacement for surgery or injectables if that's what someone is specifically looking for, it's a different, non-invasive approach that many people prefer trying first.
What to Expect at GoldenCare Wellness
Your first visit starts with a conversation about what you're hoping for, whether that's tension relief, a lifted look, or both, followed by a session tailored to that. If you'd like the full walkthrough before booking, take a look at what to expect at a first appointment. Facial wellness is one of many everyday situations we help with at the clinic, alongside things like women's health and stress-related tension, which often shows up in the face before anywhere else.
Frequently Asked Questions
Here are the questions we hear most often about our facial treatments.
Is a buccal facial painful?
Most clients describe it as intense in places, especially inside the mouth, but not painful. Pressure is always adjusted to your comfort.
How long do results last?
This varies quite a bit by person and technique. Many clients book regular sessions, similar to how you'd think about ongoing skincare, rather than expecting a one-time permanent change.
What's the difference between sculptural face lifting and facial lymphatic drainage?
Sculptural face lifting works more directly with muscle tone and structure, aiming for a lifted effect. Facial lymphatic drainage is gentler and focuses on fluid movement and puffiness. Some clients do both, depending on what they're after.
Do I need a doctor's referral?
No referral is required to book at GoldenCare Wellness. If you have any of the concerns mentioned above, please see a physician or dermatologist first.
